The beautiful valley of Huzur Vadisi in Gocek, Turkey, with Yoga Alliance Senior Teacher Jim Tarran
1st - 8th September 2014
Nestled at the foot of a mountain, surrounded by virgin pine forest, fig and olive groves on the spectacular 'Turquoise Coast’ of Southwest Turkey
This gorgeous, unspoiled setting brings a deep connection with the natural world that immeasurably enhances the benefits of yoga practice.
What you can expect from your yoga holiday...
Delicious food, transforming yoga, perfect relaxation and exceptionally warm hospitality at a venue listed under the Independent's top five yoga retreats!
Enjoy a cool dip in the beautiful natural stone swimming pool or be enticed by one of the many hammock slung low beneath the fig trees.
A traditional wooden Kösk, or summer house, is a favourite spot for siestas and evening chats.
Twice daily wonderfully inspiring and restorative yoga sessions on the spacious outdoor shala with this truly exceptional teacher will leave you in the perfect space to soak up the beautiful natural surrounds. And there is plenty of time to just sit back, relax and revive, alone or with friends.
Massage treatments are available throughout your stay. Payments are made directly to your therapist.
The heart of Huzur Vadisi (‘Peaceful Valley’ in Turkish) is a traditional restored olive farm, which provides the oil and olives used in the kitchen.
Accommodation is something rather special. Spacious, furnished yurts, complete with proper beds, bedside lamps, fans and wooden floors, have an opening at the top that lets you gaze at the stars from the comfort of your bed.
No other people live in the valley, so the peace is profound. The only sounds you will hear are cicadas, the call of owls, and the heavenly song of nightingales. At night the valley is dark and free of light pollution, revealing all the beauty of the night sky and the forest and valley bathed in moonlight.
Bathroom facilities with ample hot showers, toilets and washbasins are conveniently placed around the site. There are no en-suite facilities.
Fabulous vegetarian food...
The gifted cook, Sevgi, combines classical Turkish cooking with local village recipes to turn out truly original and delicious food. Based on fresh, local, seasonal produce – fruit, vegetables, pulses, grains, nuts, cheeses, eggs and yoghurt – the diet is a nutritionist’s dream.
Stunning unspoiled location...
Enjoying the beauty of the region doesn't require an elaborate excursion. You can leave the property on foot and walk unhindered through the pine forests. Trails provide spectacular views of the coast and islands, and also of the mountain ranges stretching inland to the north.
The Turquoise Coast
For a quick get-away, the small seaside town of Gocek is only a ten minute taxi ride away. The town has a pretty palm-lined seafront with bars and restaurants, and despite being one of Turkey’s most up-market yachting centres still retains its laid-back and friendly village atmosphere.
Guests’ all-time favourite day trip is a cruise around the islands and bays of this stunning coastline on a traditional wooden sailing boat. A day's cruise provides plenty of time for swimming and sunbathing, and a delicious lunch is cooked and served on board. The comfortable boats have toilets and a changing cabin on board, and provide ample deck space to stretch out in the sun or under a shaded awning. The Bay of Gocek, described by the yachting fraternity as the most beautiful in the Mediterranean, offers lovely views as well as beautiful clear water.
