One for the aesthetes: elegant, indulgent, relaxed and utterly wonderful

A stylishly restored twelfth Century farmhouse in 28 acres of landscaped gardens, olive groves and woodland dells, with magnificent views in all directions, a short drive from Italy’s historic towns. This retreat is a little piece of paradise.

"I can't put into words how beautiful the week was everything from the luxuriously furnished rooms with comfy beds and superb views, the delicious and beautifully presented meals, the infinity pool, the steam room and jacuzzi, the great company was outstanding"

Laid back luxury

This is one of those beautiful and peaceful old houses set in gorgeous countryside that can surely only be found in the heart of Italy, and this one lies head and shoulders above others in both its peerless natural setting and the charm and warmth of its hosts. Stroll through the olive grove, inhale the scent of roses and herbs, or simply curl up with a book under the shade of the old elm tree. Every corner is another picture perfect view, a secret space to explore and enjoy.

Bedrooms are comfortably chic and individual decorated with thoughtful touches gathered from the hosts’ travels around the world.

Fully-equipped Moorish style spa

The fabulous on-site spa, complete with oil-infused rain shower and steam room, as well as treatment rooms and fabulous lounge area, is the perfect spot to relax and unwind. Sip a herbal tea on the heated stone slab benches or step outside for a refreshing dip in the cliff side infinity pool and soak up the valley view from the whirlpool hot tub.

Magnificent natural setting

From the moment you arrive here you know you have made a terrific choice. The location is superb. It is a rare treat to find yourself in such a vast expanse of totally unspoiled picture-perfect countryside and lush green hills. Wooded paths alongside streams, rivers and waterfalls tempt you to explore the surrounding wilderness. You can literally walk for hours in profound beauty without seeing another person. Though you may, if you're lucky, encounter deer.

The extensive gardens are equally impressive. Picture walls of stone aged by the centuries, gardens of elegant lawns and aged olive trees, hidden nooks and crannies with deep cushioned daybeds and secret hammocks, and the scent of lavender and rosemary filling the air, a fabulous sun-drenched terrace and verandah perfect for watching the setting sun.

Gourmet dining

One of the great pleasures of this retreat is the incredible food. Savour superb, locally sourced and organic fine food full of authentic Italian flavours, sure to delight the palate of even the most fastidious gourmets. Outstanding buffet lunches and four-course dinners. Enjoy the finest traditions of Italian cuisine at the hands of fabulously talented chefs. Meat and fish from the local market for those who want it. Fresh pasta and fabulous risottos. Organic tomatoes, salad leaves, aromatic herbs and vegetables from the garden and olive oil from the olive grove. Fresh cheeses, home-baked breads and mouthwatering desserts.

The food really is outstanding, and there’s an excellent bargain wine list.
An honesty bar operates from a communal kitchen area, so there is always a drink if you want one but it’s easy to avoid if you don’t.

Trains, Planes and Automobiles

The nearest airports are Perugia 15km; Rome (Fiumicino or Ciampino) 200km; Florence; Peretola 170km; Ancona Falconara 130km; and, Bologna Forli 150km.

We recommend flying to Rome which is an easy 2-3 hour train ride from Perugia or a beautiful drive. We can organise shared taxis for the 20 minute journey from the train station to our location. We highly recommend adding a night or two in the Eternal city if you can spare the time. We can even recommend a great hotel, so contact us for details.

For those wishing to transfer from Rome by train, you should aim to arrive at Rome Termini station by 2pm on the first day of the retreat and take the train to Perugia Ponte San Giovanni. We can then arrange shared taxis to Locanda Del Gallo.

The train we recommend usually leaves Rome Termini at 14:28. It takes around 2 and half hours to get to Perugia. You can see all available trains and prices on the Tenitalia website or Trainline.com

Flying directly to Perugia is also an option although the airport is small and flights from major European cities are infrequent.
