LUXURY BEACHFRONT YOGA RETREAT BAJA, MEXICO
A slice of Mexican heaven where the mountains and the desert meet the sea
Located near the southern tip of Baja with suites overlooking the Pacific coast, and the Sierra del Laguna Mountains as a backdrop, this incredible location simply takes your breath away. Enjoy maximum bliss with a minimum footprint at this outstanding yoga retreat and spa. This retreat has been awarded 5 stars by Eco Hotels of The World.
Our annual yoga retreat to this fabulous destination is truly one of a kind. We time our retreat here to tie in with the annual whale migration when thousands of grey whales head to the shallow lagoons in the north of Baja to give birth to their calves. It is a truly spectacular and life-affirming experience to sea these gentle giants breaching and blowing as they make their way up the coast or bring their calves to the shallow waters to teach them in warm nursery conditions.
“I can hardly believe that such a place exists. The whole trip we were surrounded by whales. From the grey whales in Magdalena Bay that came over to say ‘hi’ to us, to swimming with whale sharks in the Bay of Cortes and our daily accompaniment of a whale ballet seen from the Dojo!”
Where the mountains and the desert meet the sea
Less than a half hour up the pacific coast from Cabo San Lucas, this gorgeous desert retreat space feels a world away from civilisation. With the Sierra de la Laguna mountains as the backdrop to the east, the dance of the whales in the Pacific Ocean to the west, and everything you could want for the perfect yoga retreat in the middle, you will start to feel revived from the minute you arrive.
Hammocks strung around the zen inspired gardens make a perfect spot for an afternoon snooze or to finally catch up with that book. Walk the meditative labyrinth or enjoy a game of bocce ball. Occasional visitors to the gardens include the beautifully big eared desert hare, colour hummingbirds and the beautiful desert cardinal. Wander ocean-wards and you’ll likely see pelicans flying by on your way down to watch the whales, a truly spectacular sight.

See whales plume and breach from the ocean view shala
Not one but two fabulous yoga studios are designed specifically to support our practise. All props are provided including mats, blocks, blankets, bolsters, sand bags and straps.
The Sun yoga studio has a golden, strand-woven bamboo floor and traditional thatched palapa roof. It features expansive windows that look out west to the mighty Pacific and the whale migration, sometimes we see the plumes and breaches of visiting whales as we practise.
The more intimate Moon studio features low windows that look out upon a hidden garden, a multitude of skylights for natural light, and an array of Chinese lanterns modelled after the famous Zen garden at Ryoanji temple in Japan for evening illumination.
Pamper, revive and unwind
Let the jets of the hot tub soothe away any aches, or warm up tight muscles in the sauna of the wellness sanctuary. Follow up with a therapeutic massage, an energizing aromatherapy treatment, a cleansing body wrap with sea salt scrub, or an invigorating facial, or just lie back with a cool drink on a chaise lounge on the wet deck.
The property also showcases an exquisite pool and and lounge areas as well as roof-top chill-out area, perfect for stargazing as well as admiring the spectacular sunsets that this area is famous for.
Fresh, delicious and healthy food
Delicious Mexican and international cuisine is prepared using the freshest ingredients, organic where available, including vegetables and herbs from the on-site organic vegetable garden. Horseback riding, kayaking, snorkelling, hiking and surfing
The Baja peninsula is a natural wonder. If you can bear to break away from the oasis of the retreat we can offer some fabulous activities to experience the magnificence of the natural world..
We partner with an outfitter who will take you on a Three Bay kayaking and snorkelling tour in the world famous bio-diverse marine system of the Sea of Cortez.
After a brief lesson, you will start kayaking from the Twin Dolphin beach into the beautiful horseshoe-shaped bay of Santa Maria where you’ll find excellent snorkelling. You’ll then paddle on toward the golden sand of Chileno Bay to relax on the beach or venture back into the clear blue waters for more snorkelling. You may well spot a few humpback or gray whales. On occasion a mum and calf might come for a close up visit.
For anyone who has not been out on the ocean to witness these beautiful animals in their element, it is an experience that you are not likely to ever forget.
There are also over a dozen different surf spots within a one-hour drive of the retreat, with great instructors who’ll have you riding a wave in no time!
If you prefer to stay on dry land, a horseback tour of the local beach and surrounding dunes is a great way to experience the local geography. The gentle guided excursion starts at a small ranch just down the beach from the retreat and follows the shoreline up onto a hilltop for great vistas. There are also great hikes to be had right from the doorstep or we can arrange a half day hike with local partners.
We time our retreat to coincide with the whale migration, which is one of the best whale watching opportunities on the planet. Tens of thousands of greys and humpbacks can be found in the waters around Baja at this time. A stroll along the local beach will likely afford you views of whale spouts, flukes and if you’re lucky a full breach, and we also offer trips from Cabo Marina to get a close look and enjoy the world famous Cabo Arch.
For those who are able to extend their trip we will be organising an optional excursion to the nursing waters of Magdalena Bay from the 12th -14th March, leaving Cabo San Lucas early on the 12th and arriving at the retreat the afternoon of the 14th. We will stay locally and be taken out on the lagoon by the experts at Magdalena Bay Whales. This is a once in a lifetime trip and highly recommended.
